An International PCT patent application has been filed for the Company's urea-degrading technology. In addition, national jurisdictional patent applications have been filed in 16 countries, including those in Europe (EU). Functional Technologies has a collaborative research agreement with UBC and its Wine Research Centre, one of the world's most advanced wine research labs. This allows the company unlimited access to a top genomic research team and its highly advanced research facilities.
Under its license agreement, Functional Technologies has exclusive rights to commercially exploit the technology, or to sublicense such rights, for a period of 20 years or until the termination of the last patent relating to the technology, whichever is later. The license will not be subject to any restrictions affecting commercial exploitation. UBC and two other contributing institutions retain the right to use the technology for research, scholarly publication, education and other non-commercial purposes.
